A. A woman who is experiencing menses or nifaas (post-natal bleeding) can do any form of ibadah besides fasting, performing salaah, reading Qur’aan and tawaaf. Remember, a woman who is experiencing menses or nifaas (post-natal bleeding) cannot recite the Qur’aan even from memory.
Q. I had to be examined by my gynaecologist, what is the status of my fast?
A. If the Gynaecologist conducted an internal examination and inserted an instrument or a finger which was medicated or lubricated into the vagina, then the fast will break. Similarly, if the instrument or finger that was inserted was not medicated or lubricated, but after being removed after the first insertion was re-inserted the fast will break.
Q. If a woman’s menses begin after she had started her fast, what should she do?
A. She should immediately break her fast and that fast would have to be kept at a later date (qadhaa,no kaffaarah required)

Q. If, during Ramadan, I unintentionally swallow a portion of a finger nail or dry skin of my finger, what is the ruling on the validity of my fast?
A. Swallowing a fingernail or dry skin, even accidentally, will invalidate/break the fast.
Q. Am I allowed to use a lip balm whilst fasting?
A. Allowed , however flavoured lip balm should be avoided, so as to protect the fast from possibly being Makrooh or invalidated in certain circumstances.(e.g. if it changes the state of the saliva)
Q. Does vomiting break the fast?
A. Vomiting, if involuntary does not break the fast regardless of the amount. However , if vomiting was induced (e.g. by placing the fingers in the mouth and forcing oneself to vomit) then the fast will break if equal to or more than a mouthful.
