Q. Sample adult question
A. Sample adlt answer
Q. Does forgetfully eating break ones fast?
A. Forgetfully eating does not break the fast.
Q. I have to use an eye-ointment whilst fasting, and many a times upon applying I taste the medicine in my throat, is my fast valid.
A. Yes, the fast is Valid and does not break despite experiencing the flavour of it in the throat.
Q. If, during Ramadan, I unintentionally swallow a portion of a finger nail or dry skin of my finger, what is the ruling on the validity of my fast?
A. Swallowing a fingernail or dry skin, even accidentally, will invalidate/break the fast.
Q. Am I allowed to use a lip balm whilst fasting?
A. Allowed , however flavoured lip balm should be avoided, so as to protect the fast from possibly being Makrooh or invalidated in certain circumstances.(e.g. if it changes the state of the saliva)
Q. Does vomiting break the fast?
A. Vomiting, if involuntary does not break the fast regardless of the amount. However , if vomiting was induced (e.g. by placing the fingers in the mouth and forcing oneself to vomit) then the fast will break if equal to or more than a mouthful.
Q. Can you tell me will bleeding gums break the fast?
A. If the blood was more than the saliva (wherein the saliva is pinkish to red in colour) AND it was swallowed then the fast will break. If less than the saliva (yellowish in colour) and/or it was not swallowed then the fast would not break.
Q. What is the ruling on flavoured Miswaaks?
A. It is Makrooh to use, and should any of the flavour be ingested, the fast could be broken. So it is best to abstain from using the flavoured Miswaak.
